Sorry it's taken so long for me to speak on this stupid writer. Work has been busy like it tends to get every now an then, but I still think, or write about LFC when I get the shot to. I will not utter the writer's name, because what he did was so stupid, and defies any logic in sports media it's almost laughable he's a writer. First of all, in this day and age of being able to check your sources, no writer should be able to run a story that hasn't been checked. There's just too much information out there to be stupid.
I went to college to be a sports writer, so I know the general rules. While my life hasn't lead me down that isle, I still retain my knowledge of it. The major rule for a sports writer is CHECK YOUR SOURCES. And if you can verify your article twice, then run with it. Calling Hillsburrough a riot, would fail every conceivable way to support your column. It never was a riot. Yes that era was the height of hooliganism, but THAT WASN'T a riot. And if you read about this writer, you find that he's not even a sports writer, he's a freaking LIFESTYLE and BUSINESS WRITER. So he had no clue about the sport. He's probably one of those American's who think of the sport as something unmanly or not worthy of discussion (yeah there are some people like that).
As an American, a writer, a sports fan, a historian, and most importantly I apologize for him. I have to skate a fine line here, the only two things I like about the Boston area are the Red Sox, and the Boston Celtics. I've never liked the sports fans, other teams, and writers out of that area, and never will. If you want good sports writing about soccer, read the NYC or LA papers. They write very well.
