I miss the old days

I've spent a good majority of my 31 years on this earth in the Mid-Atlantic States, and for the most part of my time, this has been a neglected area for English Football. Yes we did have the NY Cosmos in the late 70's and Early 80's (I write about them on a blog, on another site), but as far as being able to see the hayday of the First Division in England, wasn't possible.

Why I keep bringing this up in my blogs is that to truly understand and love the club, I want to love the golden days. Shanks, Keegan et all, would have been to see first hand, first run, instead of on replays and short snippets that you get nowadays. My undergraduate degree is in European History, so I love anything that's older than me (which really is a lot). I never got to see Keegan play, though I've seen enough of his games as a manager to want to see him as a player.

To see Shanks as a manager would probably blow my mind, since he was the revolutionary manager that everyone needed in the game. True, he wasn't the greatest manager ever if you measure him with Cup wins, but as far as changing the game, a team, and the future of the sport, it's Shanks above anyone else. It would also make me sad to see the decline in Managerial ability attracted to the club since well, Kenny left. But Kenny was influenced by Shanks indirectly, and there hasn't been a connection since Roy Evans left. Roy wouldn't even be a part time coach with Shanks. It's sad that Kenny likes Roy so much, but I hope most of that is because Kenny can't say anything bad about Liverpool, and Kenny actually likes the man.

I would have loved to see complete games of Roy Clemence, Steve Heighway, and Ian Callaghan. All of whom played significant roles in the teams of the Seventies, and are my favorite players to use in Footy Manager when I have the Legends database on.

I need way back machine for Christmas.
