We play at Exeter on Wednesday in the Carling Cup. Being relatively new to English football I have a few questions. I understand the basics of the Carling Cup, but am interested in the team's strategy for it.
Exeter is a League 1 team, that has been described as struggling. (BTW they play at St. James part, but not the one in Newcastle. The are apparently called the Grecians, but no one can agree on why.) Since this is a one game stage with extra time and a shootout what type of lineup should LFC field? Should there be a mixture of veterans and youngsters, or should it be a young team with some major players on the bench in case things get dicey? Should Kenny use this for additional conditioning for players coming off injury such as Glen Johnson if he is close to ready? Should we try hard to win the silverware, since it is the most minor trophy, or use the series for player development? With red cards carrying over to the EPL should we remove players who get yellows and are likely to get themselves in danger? (We don't have anyone like Frimthug, but some younger players like Flanno and Robinson come to mind.)
