Transfer Thread II

Since comments are locked after a fan post is 30 days old, the old Transfer Thread is no longer any good. Feel free to use this to post any rumors, thoughts or ideas you have for this transfer window.

So far, it looks as if Liverpool have signed Joao Carlos Teixeira (there are a few accents in there somewhere, I don't understand Portugese). He looks like a decent signing, although he is still young and we need goals now. As of now though, it hasn't been confirmed by Liverpool although the rumors are rampant in the media.

That means the only confirmed signing of this transfer window is Warrior Sports for Liverpool's kits beginning in 2012.

Other signings/rumors transfers so far:

Darren Bent

Moussa Sow

Jermaine Defoe

Scott Dann

David Texeira

Esteban Granero

Scott Sinclair

Salomon Kalou

Demba Ba

There are a few others, but these seem to be the most prevalent. I don't know a whole lot about many of them so feel free to enlighten us below if you have some insight. Enjoy.

David Texeira????

Well maybe as a keeper lol :)

my bad read David Texeria but my mind was thinking Mark Texeria the Yankee first baseman

is David Texeria different than Joao Carlos Teixeira. I am totally confused

Yes. Joao Carlos is or was in the Sporting Lisbon youth academy. Link for spotlight on him

David Texeria plays for FC Groningen in the Dutch league. He is from Uruguay. He has played for the U-20 club.

Both are solid pickups IMHO but don’t address our immediate need. Perhaps David could come right in, but unlikely.

hmmm another player from Uruguay via the Dutch league , I am seeing a trend

thanks I was getting totally messed up what are the odds of two players they wanted having Texeria as their last name

Cheap players, don’t have the english premium on them. Also, Uruguayan to gel with Luis perhaps. I really feel that they will build the squad around him rather than he who shall not be named (insert £35 price tag).

Reading

That LFC are in advanced talks with FC Groningen for Texeira from several outlets. This one seems that unless a deal falls through that it will happen in January.

Noted that Cash plus player or Cash plus loan player are likely options. Groningen I have several for you to choose from (in order of preference):

Downing
Charlie Hollywood
Dirk
Glen Johnson, the defending Glen Johnson
Raheem on loan
Suso on loan

by NC Nole on Jan 23, 2012 8:51 PM GMT up reply actions

Dirk?

Why, he can’t finish but he is a better player than Carroll.

by Jackglfc on Jan 31, 2012 6:45 PM GMT up reply actions

I agree

But he is getting up there in age.

Loyalty - Don't just offload him, he's been good to the club.

Besides we could do the with depth and the options he gives us.

by Jackglfc on Jan 31, 2012 7:02 PM GMT up reply actions

Uh, his technical abilities are not great. He is also getting up there for a footballer.

Rumors of him going to a Turkish league in the summer for around £10. If we can get that much for him then I’d take that for sure!

Also, he has been a great Red! He will be welcomed back to Anfield anytime. Just time to move on.

We Reds seem to get caught up in the moment when he scores, like after his hat trick last year agains MUFC, but Suarez set him up for all three of those, and Evra fell asleep on the goal last weekend.

Latest Texeira Update

LFC and Groningen are close to a deal rumored to be £8M-£9M which would include a friendly, I would assume at Groningen.

Mauricio Isla

Just read we are on a list of clubs that are interested in signing the Udinese player.

Here is what I have read about him:

He can play in numerous positions, including right, centre, and left back as well as a winger or centre midfielder. Also, he can play as an inside forward

by NC Nole on Jan 19, 2012 7:28 PM GMT reply actions

Nigel de Jong

I have also read that we are interested in him. Apparently wants £100k a week. Don’t see us paying him that. Would chalk this one up as transfer fodder.

by NC Nole on Jan 19, 2012 7:29 PM GMT reply actions

Not thrilled with the names that we have been linked with. I am all for the youth movement but we need to place 4th, this year not next year. It has been far too long since CL football.

Of the names above I think Texeira (David) is the most likely and I am excited about Joao Carlos, he looks to be a stud in a few seasons.

But the fact we are rumored with the above players shows how far we have fallen. This goes to show that without CL football (and the Euro 2012 coming up) it is hard to land quality talent.

by NC Nole on Jan 19, 2012 7:32 PM GMT reply actions

This sounds crazy

Could we make a play for Michael Owen? Honestly we need a guy with a decent shot and someone who knows how to put the ball in the net. He’s not all the fast anymore but our attack right now is as slow as molasses.

Had read the same

the idea that he’d come, as better and younger, than a Defoe or Bent, for much less of fee, would have made a lot of sense. He’d be what we want Carroll to be, a big, fast, physical partner to poach off Suarez.

Watched some youtube videos of him yesterday. I hate doing that as you can never really get a good feel for their play.

Like you said at the right price I would take him.

considering how he seems to duplicative of Suarez, but not as good, and struggles in a pass and move system.

And Portsmouth is having a mandatory sell off, any chance we can steal a good bargain from them to fill a hole? Maybe the young DM Ward, or a striker.

by Mr. Sanchez on Jan 23, 2012 3:52 PM GMT up reply actions

Given our lack of width

I would settle for him in January if we can get a bargain for him (I think £5M-£7M range would be nice, or even a loan).

by NC Nole on Jan 23, 2012 3:59 PM GMT up reply actions

Agreed,...

but can he be bought that cheap is the issue? A loan would be interesting though, and in the summer, he can be paid for either by Aqua’s sale fees (has he met the games played clause that automatically triggers a purchase yet?) or perhaps we just straight swap the two.

Aqua

is at 20 appearances for Milan. That is counting CL play. I am not sure if that counts towards his total number of 25. If not then I believe he is at 16 for Serie A.

If CL is included he will most likely hit that number.

Don’t know much about Nikica as I don’t follow the SPL, anyone have any insight? I remember us being linked to him this summer. According to the report here Rangers rejected a £9M bid last summer for him. That may be too much for a SPL striker.

Like I said I don’t follow the SPL but I have always heard it was a weak league.

Also to be considered is that De Laurentiis has never ever ever ever sold a key player

I’m sure he’ll have to eventually with Cavani, Pocho, and Hamsik, just because those three will fetch a ton of cash for him to build the team with, but it will take a bloody fortune for him to part with any of them. I don’t see LFC spending that kind of money on any of the three, though I might shit myself with glee if Cavani or Hamsik put on a red shirt (I’d love Lavezzi, too, but he’s a half-step behind them in my eyes).

I’ll be a sad little Napoli fan when those three leave…

I still would like a striker if he isn’t going to play Bellamy up top. Perhaps the City game has changed his perspective on that.

"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the game" -Bill Shankly

by Bromantic on Jan 30, 2012 4:12 PM GMT up reply actions

I never thought we'd add a striker

as Bellamy seems to be moving more to that role, or Kuyt, and they seem adament about Carroll despite his poor past play. If we added anything, I thought it’d be a DM (until Spearing started stepping up), or most needed, a right winger so Downing can play his much more comfortable left. I’m still hoping that’s a smokescreen, and we add a quality right winger so Kuyt can become a reserve striker, and Downing can stay on that left side.

http://sportsandgrits.com/

by Mr. Sanchez on Jan 30, 2012 4:18 PM GMT up reply actions

In Kenny's Mind

I feel like he thinks that Spearing will cover and I feel he is back in the line up or used as a sub tomorrow.

Also, Luis is back after tomorrow’s match, fresh, Carroll showing some promise (?), he also feels that Bellers can play the wing.

Would LOVE to see Raheem get a run tomorrow!!! Apparently he was wanted on loan by 3-4 PL clubs.

by NC Nole on Jan 30, 2012 4:27 PM GMT up reply actions

Raheem would be great to see

Maybe give Carroll 60 minutes to hopefully get his confidence up and then bring on Raheem if we are winning.

Not seeing more of the youngsters is a worry for me. Maybe next year.

"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the game" -Bill Shankly

by Bromantic on Jan 30, 2012 4:30 PM GMT up reply actions

Spearing can cover

but what about when he gets hurt. Adam? Gerrard? Hendo? Shelvey? None are ideal in the old Lucas holding mid role, so a cover, if only on loan for the rest of the year, would be wise imo. Unless the plan is for Connor Coady to provide that cover until year’s end, but he hasn’t even seen the bench this year if I’m not mistaken, which dovetails in to Bro’s “not seeing enough of the kids” comment regarding Raheem.

And yes, Bells plays the wing. The left wing. Which pushes Downing to his problematic right side. I’d like someone who can do what Downing does from the left side but naturally on the right. Personally, I think that’s Glen Johnson, and we should let him play more advanced while Martin Kelly fills in at RB. But then, we haven’t seen that at all this year, and again fitting in with Bro’s “not enough of” comment, he hasn’t played anywhere near as much as I’d have liked to see considering how well he’s done when given the run.

7.05pm: Lord of the Rings extra and former Liverpool defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos has apparently joined Sunderland.

More from the Guardian

Can’t tell if joking, or…

7.18pm: Consensus* in the office is that Jermaine Defoe’s absence from the Spurs squad absolutely, definitely, without question heralds a move to Liverpool.

it would be really cool

but for some reason I can’t get too excited about the rumors until they happen, something about getting my hopes up in every transfer window prior. :)

And the window is shut

Between us, MCFC, MUFC, Arsenal, Spurs… all we got was a couple of old guys signing on loan (Pizarro to MCFC, Saha to Spurs).

Busiest team was QPR. Cisse and Zamora? Apparently they’re trying to win the 2006 PL.

Wow

I guess it just wasn’t as ripe. But Chelski and Liverpool accounted for 100m of that in just 3 transactions last season.

Take out Torres (50m), Carroll (35m) and Suarez (22.7m) and you’re still talking about 110m vs 60m. This was a really quiet window.
