Transfer Thread II
Since comments are locked after a fan post is 30 days old, the old Transfer Thread is no longer any good. Feel free to use this to post any rumors, thoughts or ideas you have for this transfer window.
So far, it looks as if Liverpool have signed Joao Carlos Teixeira (there are a few accents in there somewhere, I don't understand Portugese). He looks like a decent signing, although he is still young and we need goals now. As of now though, it hasn't been confirmed by Liverpool although the rumors are rampant in the media.
That means the only confirmed signing of this transfer window is Warrior Sports for Liverpool's kits beginning in 2012.
Other signings/rumors transfers so far:
Moussa Sow
Jermaine Defoe
David Texeira
There are a few others, but these seem to be the most prevalent. I don't know a whole lot about many of them so feel free to enlighten us below if you have some insight. Enjoy.

my bad read David Texeria but my mind was thinking Mark Texeria the Yankee first baseman
is David Texeria different than Joao Carlos Teixeira. I am totally confused
"It's a joke. It's all a joke.
Yes. Joao Carlos is or was in the Sporting Lisbon youth academy. Link for spotlight on him
David Texeria plays for FC Groningen in the Dutch league. He is from Uruguay. He has played for the U-20 club.
Both are solid pickups IMHO but don’t address our immediate need. Perhaps David could come right in, but unlikely.
hmmm another player from Uruguay via the Dutch league , I am seeing a trend
thanks I was getting totally messed up what are the odds of two players they wanted having Texeria as their last name

Nice
Something happened other than some keeper swaps.

Yup
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/portuguese-youngster-joins-academy
Am hoping that he will see some first team action next year!
Reading
That LFC are in advanced talks with FC Groningen for Texeira from several outlets. This one seems that unless a deal falls through that it will happen in January.
Noted that Cash plus player or Cash plus loan player are likely options. Groningen I have several for you to choose from (in order of preference):
Downing
Charlie Hollywood
Dirk
Glen Johnson, the defending Glen Johnson
Raheem on loan
Suso on loan
I agree
But he is getting up there in age.
"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the game" -Bill Shankly
Loyalty - Don't just offload him, he's been good to the club.
Besides we could do the with depth and the options he gives us.
Uh, his technical abilities are not great. He is also getting up there for a footballer.
Rumors of him going to a Turkish league in the summer for around £10. If we can get that much for him then I’d take that for sure!
Also, he has been a great Red! He will be welcomed back to Anfield anytime. Just time to move on.
We Reds seem to get caught up in the moment when he scores, like after his hat trick last year agains MUFC, but Suarez set him up for all three of those, and Evra fell asleep on the goal last weekend.
Latest Texeira Update
LFC and Groningen are close to a deal rumored to be £8M-£9M which would include a friendly, I would assume at Groningen.
Mauricio Isla
Just read we are on a list of clubs that are interested in signing the Udinese player.
Here is what I have read about him:
He can play in numerous positions, including right, centre, and left back as well as a winger or centre midfielder. Also, he can play as an inside forward
Nigel de Jong
I have also read that we are interested in him. Apparently wants £100k a week. Don’t see us paying him that. Would chalk this one up as transfer fodder.
Not thrilled with the names that we have been linked with. I am all for the youth movement but we need to place 4th, this year not next year. It has been far too long since CL football.
Of the names above I think Texeira (David) is the most likely and I am excited about Joao Carlos, he looks to be a stud in a few seasons.
But the fact we are rumored with the above players shows how far we have fallen. This goes to show that without CL football (and the Euro 2012 coming up) it is hard to land quality talent.
This sounds crazy
Could we make a play for Michael Owen? Honestly we need a guy with a decent shot and someone who knows how to put the ball in the net. He’s not all the fast anymore but our attack right now is as slow as molasses.

We desperately need a striker!
Who fits into our style of play. Sow has hinted at being open to joining us. At 10£ I think he’d be a steal!
by tsin on Jan 20, 2012 1:01 AM GMT via Android app reply actions
Sow has given the come and get me statement, saying that it would be his dream to play infront of the Kop. Not sure he comes in this window. Perhaps during the summer and Joe Cole goes the other way.
Damn
That would have been a much needed signing.

Had read the same
the idea that he’d come, as better and younger, than a Defoe or Bent, for much less of fee, would have made a lot of sense. He’d be what we want Carroll to be, a big, fast, physical partner to poach off Suarez.
http://sportsandgrits.com/
Milos Krasic
Apparently reports from Italy have said that Juve is offering Milos Krasic (Serbian winger) to LFC.
Now that would be interesting.
Krasic is a pretty nice little player. Not a star, but I could see him being useful to this club.

Watched some youtube videos of him yesterday. I hate doing that as you can never really get a good feel for their play.
His work rate seems pretty good.
Like you said at the right price I would take him.
Reading this, I'm not sure how much I want him now
considering how he seems to duplicative of Suarez, but not as good, and struggles in a pass and move system.
http://www.sabotagetimes.com/football-sport/is-milos-krasic-the-winger-to-reignite-stuttering-liverpool/
And Portsmouth is having a mandatory sell off, any chance we can steal a good bargain from them to fill a hole? Maybe the young DM Ward, or a striker.
http://sportsandgrits.com/
Given our lack of width
I would settle for him in January if we can get a bargain for him (I think £5M-£7M range would be nice, or even a loan).
Agreed,...
but can he be bought that cheap is the issue? A loan would be interesting though, and in the summer, he can be paid for either by Aqua’s sale fees (has he met the games played clause that automatically triggers a purchase yet?) or perhaps we just straight swap the two.
http://sportsandgrits.com/
Aqua
is at 20 appearances for Milan. That is counting CL play. I am not sure if that counts towards his total number of 25. If not then I believe he is at 16 for Serie A.
If CL is included he will most likely hit that number.
Let's hope he hits it
I’d rather not wait through another will he/won’t he again this summer.

Nikica Jelavic
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/16659157.stm
Don’t know much about Nikica as I don’t follow the SPL, anyone have any insight? I remember us being linked to him this summer. According to the report here Rangers rejected a £9M bid last summer for him. That may be too much for a SPL striker.
Like I said I don’t follow the SPL but I have always heard it was a weak league.
I'd never take a striker from the SPL
Can’t think of a single one with the talent to hang in the EPL. Just an awful league.

I am seeing rumors on twitter that Rangers have received offers from other clubs but he wants to hold out for LFC, I am seeing numbers of around £10M, if Damien and Kenny purchase him for that much I will officially give up on them.
Considering they can get Krasic for the same price...
or could have gotten Sow from Lille, agreed.
http://sportsandgrits.com/
Esteban Granero
Take him off the list for January.
Khedira is injured and Jose has asked him to stay for the remainder of the season.
Just heard we might be in for Hleb
Maybe a few years ago I would have liked this. Now, not so much unless he comes cheap.

Mauricio Isla
Seen some rumors flying that we have made a bid in the neighborhood of £10M-£15M for the Udinese Defender/MF. Apparently he is very versitile and can play on the wing, in a central MF position, and in defense.
Find his profile at this link
Edinson Cavani
New rumor that we are in for him. Don’t know how much though.
"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the game" -Bill Shankly
also
Rumors of an AC plus cash deal. Not gonna happen imho.
Why go from a club in CL? Doesn’t make sense.
Also reading we are in an £18M bid for Marko Marin and that we wanted to swap AC for Tevez. Gotta love the last few days of a window.
by NC Nole on Jan 29, 2012 2:14 PM GMT via mobile up reply actions
Heard about the Tevez thing
I never thought I would say this, but I’d rather keep Carroll.
"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the game" -Bill Shankly
Also to be considered is that De Laurentiis has never ever ever ever sold a key player
I’m sure he’ll have to eventually with Cavani, Pocho, and Hamsik, just because those three will fetch a ton of cash for him to build the team with, but it will take a bloody fortune for him to part with any of them. I don’t see LFC spending that kind of money on any of the three, though I might shit myself with glee if Cavani or Hamsik put on a red shirt (I’d love Lavezzi, too, but he’s a half-step behind them in my eyes).
I’ll be a sad little Napoli fan when those three leave…

Is that a sarcastic "Awesome"?
I still would like a striker if he isn’t going to play Bellamy up top. Perhaps the City game has changed his perspective on that.
"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the game" -Bill Shankly
I never thought we'd add a striker
as Bellamy seems to be moving more to that role, or Kuyt, and they seem adament about Carroll despite his poor past play. If we added anything, I thought it’d be a DM (until Spearing started stepping up), or most needed, a right winger so Downing can play his much more comfortable left. I’m still hoping that’s a smokescreen, and we add a quality right winger so Kuyt can become a reserve striker, and Downing can stay on that left side.
http://sportsandgrits.com/
In Kenny's Mind
I feel like he thinks that Spearing will cover and I feel he is back in the line up or used as a sub tomorrow.
Also, Luis is back after tomorrow’s match, fresh, Carroll showing some promise (?), he also feels that Bellers can play the wing.
Would LOVE to see Raheem get a run tomorrow!!! Apparently he was wanted on loan by 3-4 PL clubs.
Raheem would be great to see
Maybe give Carroll 60 minutes to hopefully get his confidence up and then bring on Raheem if we are winning.
Not seeing more of the youngsters is a worry for me. Maybe next year.
"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the game" -Bill Shankly
Spearing can cover
but what about when he gets hurt. Adam? Gerrard? Hendo? Shelvey? None are ideal in the old Lucas holding mid role, so a cover, if only on loan for the rest of the year, would be wise imo. Unless the plan is for Connor Coady to provide that cover until year’s end, but he hasn’t even seen the bench this year if I’m not mistaken, which dovetails in to Bro’s “not seeing enough of the kids” comment regarding Raheem.
And yes, Bells plays the wing. The left wing. Which pushes Downing to his problematic right side. I’d like someone who can do what Downing does from the left side but naturally on the right. Personally, I think that’s Glen Johnson, and we should let him play more advanced while Martin Kelly fills in at RB. But then, we haven’t seen that at all this year, and again fitting in with Bro’s “not enough of” comment, he hasn’t played anywhere near as much as I’d have liked to see considering how well he’s done when given the run.
http://sportsandgrits.com/
On Twitter
I keep reading all of these rumors of Tevez coming over on loan and then Cavani signing in the summer.
I clearly don’t believe this but could you imagine an attacking fronline of Luis, Tevez, and Bellers or even Bellers on the wing?
Was the deal for the Sporting Lisbon mid
Joao Carlos Texiera ever announced official? We all read about it, but I don’t recall seeing anything confirming the signing on the official site.
http://sportsandgrits.com/
I want to say he was signed and then loaned back
But I’m not 100% on that.

until they need one. Like all other professions, a few bad eggs spoil the reputation for the vast majority of good ones.

As a lawyer
I’m not a bad guy. Really! There’s a very limited number of us who give the rest of us a bad name. And we hate those guys.

The Lord of Frodsham, Djibril Cisse,is on his way to Lazio. Best of luck and good luck finding a barber to do your hair in Italy as well. Perhaps you should consult with Balotelli before your move.

That was supposed to be from Lazio to QPR
Hmm, I thought he was riding the bench over here for some reason.

Funny you mention the Lord of Frodsham thing. My last name is Fordham and I have recently traced my lineage back to this town. Sorry not transfer related but interesting, never knew about his title.
He got the title by buying a mansion while at Liverpool
I always liked him for some reason and he loved the club. He got married in a red pimp suit. His two leg breaks really stopped his career.

Given what happened last year, I’m not sure whether it’s worth following until a couple of hours before the deadline closes (Suarez, Carroll and Torres deals were all closed in that time last year, the latter two in the last half hour of the window).
Don’t expect we’ll do anything. Don’t really expect any of the top 6 clubs will do anything big. Guess we’ll see.

More ex-Liverpool player news, sorry it's a boring window
Looks like Sotirios Kyrgiakos’ move to Sunderland is close – he’s having a medical at the moment and if all goes well the deal could be announced about 6.30pm.

Roman Pavlyuchenko
Not only has Defoe been linked but his striking teammate has now been linked with a move to LFC.
Not sure how much he brings to the table.
Interesting
Or are you making this up so we have something to talk about?

My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with the girl who saw Pavlyuchenko at John Lennon Airport. I guess it’s pretty serious.
(I should totally submit that to #BBCFootball and see if they’ll put it on the deadline day chat. They tend to like to put the stuff they know is outrageous on there)

anyone expect new signings
or do most people trust what King Kenny is saying about no new signings expected
I don't think we'll see anything
At least nothing major. Apparently two reserves keepers, that is it. Especially with a game today, I would imagine we’d be hearing more rumors if something was going to happen.
"The trouble with referees is that they know the rules, but they don't know the game" -Bill Shankly
We have been so busy the last couple of windows
that I tend to forget most clubs including us most of the time don’t go and blow 30-50 million each transfer window. Kenny also made the point of saying that the january window tends to rush them too much and Commoli seems like the type to do research and take calculated chances rather than splash out the money whenever.
yep, Liverpool and the Panthers
I found it kind of odd to be going for two teams that were simultaneously rebuilding, but it makes for a lot of posting, lol
Jesus there are a lot of you lot

Latest Rumor
Is Defoe for £10M, citing he is not in Spuds line up for this evenings match.
Still a few hours to get something hammered out, but I agree with Bro, I don’t expect anyone in by midnight GMT
Also, just read that we enquired about Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezman? That has been rebuffed by Real Sociedad.

it would be really cool
but for some reason I can’t get too excited about the rumors until they happen, something about getting my hopes up in every transfer window prior. :)
And the window is shut
Between us, MCFC, MUFC, Arsenal, Spurs… all we got was a couple of old guys signing on loan (Pizarro to MCFC, Saha to Spurs).
Busiest team was QPR. Cisse and Zamora? Apparently they’re trying to win the 2006 PL.
