Help Wanted Sign Is Out

The first step is admitting you have a problem, right?

Anyway, while I'm thrilled with how this site is growing and how people seem to be enjoying the small but building community we've got here, I know that it can be more. I wish I had full time to devote to it, but with every other blogging thing I have going I don't. I've been trying to think of ways I can grow this and give it more content, and I've got one idea.

So, if there's someone out there who would be interested in doing a weekly reserve team/youth team update, I'd like to hear from you. Whether you're actually over there or have the time to watch the games on LFC. tv, or just have the time and inclination to read all the reports on them, which I don't, it doesn't matter. We could even split it up into two jobs if someone is willing to just do youth team regularly and one do reserves. But we should all know what's going on with the club beyond the first team.

If you have any interest, please email me at committedindian@gmail.com. Also, in the comments if you have suggestions for other things we could be doing on a regular basis with the blog, feel free to do so. Bromantic has done a wonderful job with the player ratings, and Joe has helped fill in too. But there's more to be done, and though it's overdue, I'm finally getting to doing so.

Thanks for your help.

Atop the Sugar Pile/Other things stolen from SCH

As an avid reader of all things Sam Fels, I am a big fan of both the Sugar Pile feature and that other thing where you and McClure yell at each other while attempting to answer a question. I know I don’t post often, but I would be more than happy to help grow the community.

Ideas

- Bi-weekly transfer update and links /// weekly during the windows
- Update of performances by loaned players
- Tactical analysis of matches
- Weekly or daily feed of links for news related to the greatest club on the planet.
- Year end reivew of club and review of players (seperate posts for each player)

I could likely help out with the transfer updates and performances by loaned players or the weekly links to the LFC news.

Also could pitch in and help out with year end review if you guys think it is a good idea.

Traffic

Sam,

What is the traffic like here. Do you get that many hits on a daily basis? Seems to be the same folks commenting in the threads, I have noticed that it has picked up lately but seems like many of the same users. Not sure how to “market” to open door for potential new users.

by NC Nole on Feb 2, 2012 4:00 PM GMT reply actions

You'd be surprised at the page views/hits for sites without a lot of comments.

I know our numbers at The Busby Babe and it’s MUCH HIGHER than you would guess based on participation.

by nolefansam on Feb 2, 2012 5:11 PM GMT up reply actions

Agreed...

my blog only seems to have a handful of commenters, especially regular commenters, but still gets well over 1,000 page views on days when there may just be 3 or 4 comments.

The traffic depends on what is posted

It is up and down. It was up with the Suarez findings article, but that was because a couple other sites linked it. It was also up with the Man U Player Ratings, but again, that was mainly due to the fact that Sweet Science over at The Busby Babe linked it in his player ratings.

It definitely goes up for the days leading up to big games though. The smaller games are so-so, but the outside links from other sites to our articles increases traffic immensely.

So really, we need more articles that appeal to a broader argument. E-mail me if you want more info.

Bro

You have got to stop typing with your keepr mitts on!

by NC Nole on Feb 2, 2012 5:45 PM GMT up reply actions

I know. This is getting ridiculous.

The reason I said that

I know many people that watch sporting events with their gear on them or near them.

I have a friend that watches football with his football in his hands the whole game.

Also witnessed someone watching baseball games with their glove.

I pictured you wearing your keeper’s gloves!

I spit on them often too

That way I don’t drop my beer.

I think an issue here is that the author of most of the articles doesn't participate in the discussion.

I like a forum where there can be discussion/disagreement about topics but that doesn’t always materialise here.

by nolefansam on Feb 2, 2012 5:56 PM GMT reply actions

I understand that

But generally I feel the comments is for the readers and I try and stay out of it. But I’ll be more apparent when I can. But ask my SCH readers, being in the comments had led to its fair share of trouble.

Nah, you are the editor. You should moderate, keep folks on track in some cases. Bromantic likes to veer off topic.

by NC Nole on Feb 2, 2012 6:51 PM GMT up reply actions

I prefer to think of them as rants

But that’s just semantics.

Sort of. I always like to end articles with a question, so that the forum discussion has a natural starting position.

Mid-Week

I would assume that this site drives the most traffic on matchdays with the live threads leading the way. The only problem I see with the site in general is that there is a lack of mid-week news (injury status, potential line up changes, transfer rumors, etc.) which means that I would only want to check this site when the games are coming up.

If you need some help I can contribute. I do some work over at Bad Left Hook (just ask Sweet Science about it) so I’m used to the system.

Love the Verdi quote here

He sits right above me at every Hawks game and reads the publication I do. I’ve never gotten a higher compliment than that.

I can vouch for Waldo

He does excelent analysis on boxing at Bad Left Hook, the only boxing blog I care to comment on, just because it is pretty damm brilliant

Not sure what his football knowledge is like. The only thing I know of him is that he supports Liverpool, so I would hazard a guess at not a lot…… :)

Game Threads

I’d like to see a little more on the actual game threads.

Brief paragraph or two and then edited with line-ups and subs – could complement the preview nicely.

I wouldn’t mind helping with that if you needed it.

Premier League Update and Other Ideas

It would be nice to have a weekly round up of the ins and outs of the other 19 clubs in the Premier League so readers will have better knowledge of the league table and the situation of our rivals. All it would be is maybe 3-4 paragraphs covering the key information around the league, which would be a nice insert to override the midweek lull. Another idea that I have is to sporadically post articles about Liverpool news that doesn’t directly effect matches such as the new deal with Warrior Sports for our upcoming uniforms (I don’t believe I saw anything about that on the blog but I might be mistaken).

The weekly round up of the other Premier League clubs is definitely something that I’m interested in and committed to doing, but I would first like to know how it sounds to everyone else.

by loyal2reds on Feb 3, 2012 3:17 AM GMT reply actions

Good Idea

on the league updates.

Also, I feel that we should include at a weekly post regarding LFC news with links to sources. Anything major and even some minor stuff that gets lost in the suffle.

I would love to help.

I’m constantly on my computer in class so it is not like this would be too much of a stretch, and my linguistic skills should be pretty well considering most of law school is writing long arguments.

I’ll email the account.

Semi ironic having a grammar error in a sentence hyping one’s own linguistic skills :)

I was seeing if someone was finally going to point that out
