New Stadium Inbound?
I just ran across a piece on This Is Anfield from last month on Liverpool getting a new stadium that moves away from the hallowed grounds of Anfield Road and will be in Stanley Park. Apparently a timeline is forthcoming once a naming rights partner is found (yuck).
I'm really not sure what to make of this. I think it's an attractive enough design, but it's not Anfield. And frankly, while I'm sure it'll be a wonderful place to play and Liverpool will go on to great success there... it still won't be Anfield. Nothing can be. The place is iconic.
Plus, if they move to the new stadium before I can get my ass across the Atlantic to see a match at Anfield, I'm gonna be *pissed*...
What do you guys think of this?

Interesting
I share your sentiment about not getting to Anfield. It might become an at whatever cost deal if this is going to happen.
However, I know there is a bunch of legal holds and deadlines on the already agreed to 99 year lease on Stanley Park.

Agreed.
Once we know the timeline, my plans for an England/Ireland trip will start formalizing in a big hurry at virtually any expense.

From what I understand NESV really tried to find a way to make it work at Anfield
just like they did with Fenway but ran into too many road blocks
Hopefully they can do something like “New Anfield” at ASDA Park or something like that, History is great but I laugh at Cubs fans and their slavish devotion to that dump they play in. Miller Park has played a huge role in the Milwaukee Brewers resurgence getting 3 million plus paid every year allows to you have more money to compete with the Phillies and Yankees of the world and the money from a New Anfield will help us stay in sight of Chelski and Man City

the idea of a new park, lets us compete with the big boys. Imagine if we had approx 30k more tickets sold per match, average price of £35 per ticket that is approx an extra £1M per match which equates to £19M more in revenue a season. Plus naming rights.
I am also hoping that it can incorporate some of the old tradition. like Shankley’s gates the Kop etc.
I love the history of the club but don’t want to become history and get relegated or become a mid-table club.
