Around the League: Redknapp Edition
After being found not guilty for tax evasion, Harry Redknapp is finding himself heavily involved in talks about the England national team managerial position in the wake of Fabio Capello's resignation. Harry's qualifications are certainly pretty good, considering his FA cup run with Portsmouth and his remarkable turnaround at Spurs. He also overcame a brutal car accident in which he was initially pronounced dead at the scene. Now, alive and very much well, would he want to take a job as the England manager? It seems like a pretty shiny reputation for success would be at risk with all of the turmoil surrounding John Terry and Co. Redknapp is in a pretty solid situation at the moment with third place Tottenham currently qualifying for another Champions League spot. The chances of England winning a World Cup in the next ten years are slim with the talent of Spain, Brazil, Argentina, and Holland so if I were in Harry's spot I would remain happy at my current job.
Now for some other teams...
Newcastle: How about the addition of Papiss Demba Cisse? After Joey Barton, Kevin Nolan, and Jose Enrique all walked alone it seemed like a Toon nightmare was imminent. After over half a season, Newcastle sit ahead of Liverpool in the table looking like a dangerous side. Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye have been in scintillating form all year and the addition of Cisse to their strike force was absolutely brilliant. His winner against Villa had me shaking my head and asking why he wasn't on Liverpool's radar.
Wigan: Can someone please tell me how they're still in the Premier League? I could swear we'd lost them somewhere along the road in the last few years. They currently sit in last place with 16 points, 41 points behind Manchester City.
Fulham: American Clint Dempsey is 100% on his game with 10 goals and 5 assists-fantasy soccer gold. Bobby Zamora has left for QPR after a fairly long tenure at the Craven Cottage. Apparently he was involved in a discrepancy with Fulham manager Martin Jol.

Redknapp should take it
Ultimately, he’s not going to win the League at Spurs because of their wage structure and the fact that they soon have to invest in a new ground, and financially they’re too far behind. Realistically he’s got a better chance of squeezing by, say Spain and Holland in a semi final and final by one goal/penalties than a 38 game League. Plus he’d get paid much better. Its a no brainer.
I actually Have no filter.
Respectfully disagree
I was actually thinking the opposite.
He has made the Spuds a top 4 club. He has a fairly good squad. Will likely sell Modric in the summer, and if I was him I would sell Bale at his peak, I am sure that Real would pay a handsome transfer fee. If he can collect £50M-£70M he can likely re-invest in good players abroad.
I would stay and try and compete for a PL or CL trophy, because let’s face it the job will likely be open again in a few years.
If they qualify for the CL again they can compete, especially with a new ground. Naming rights, more seats, etc, etc.
He has a pretty good gig, I am not sure the England job would be a good step right now.
I wouldn’t sell Bale unless I got a ridiculous premium for him (at least £75 M). Also Tottenham are going to come into an influx of cash because they are in the champions league. They should be able to demand a higher fee from their sponsor and maybe try to squeeze out a new kit manufacturer. Arry is actually in a pretty good position right now.

£75M for Welsh Jesus
Wow. I am sure that if they only paid £80M for Ronaldo, and let’s face it Bale is no Ronaldo that they will not buy him at that fee.
I think in the £40M range would be reasonable. Look at CFC, they brought in Mata for much less than that and he is better than Bale IMHO.
Yeah thats why I said huge premium. Bale is one of the driving forces of Tottenham so I would figure that they would need a ridiculous bid to pry him from the Spurs.

I say no
I think if I were Redknapp I would stay far away. England have been through a boatload of managers in recent memory and it is a job that is high pressure with little reward. England have plenty of talent to take them far, but no one has been able to get them to gel properly. I don’t see why Redknapp would change that and he would then soon become the scapegoat like all the others.

By the way
This isn’t to say that he is not suited for the job. He would definitely be the best choice, but if I’m Harry, I’d stay put.
